Effectiveness of Community-Based Health Promotion in Preventing Smoking Among Adolescents in Nisam District

Background: The phenomenon of smoking among teenagers remains a public health threat today, contributing to various chronic diseases. As many as 7 million deaths are attributed to smoking. A community-based approach is one way to prevent the spread of smoking among teenagers. Purpose: To increase knowledge of smoking prevention behavior among adolescents in Nisam District, North Aceh Regency. Methods: The activity was implemented using an interactive lecture method and assessments of smoking knowledge levels before and after the activity. The target group was 30 adolescents aged 15–18 years living in Nisam District, North Aceh. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Results: After carrying out educational activities, there was an increase in knowledge in the good category from 5 people to 25 people (16.67% to 83.34%). This proves that community-based health promotion is effective in preventing smoking behavior, especially through increasing adolescent knowledge. Conclusion: This activity has had a positive impact, increasing the number of adolescents with good knowledge about smoking prevention. This activity can be repeated, and regular monitoring of changes in adolescent behavior, particularly regarding smoking cessation, is necessary.
